MĀMAKI

Māmaki, Pipturus albidus, Endemic

Mamaki may be used to help bring balance to our body cycles and wellbeing. In Hawaii tradition, lāʻau lapaʻau was firstly used as a preventative for overall health and healing. Other traditions shared that women ate māmaki fruits and seeds during the later months of pregnancy. The fruit was used in healing sores and wounds. Mothers gave the small white fruit to children as a mild laxative or to treat ʻea (thrush). Seeds were given to infants and adults as a tonic for general debility of the body.

TEA : Brewed, Fresh or Dried

Used for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver problems, depression, bladder problems, bladder infections, and PMS.

It works well for irritability or just to decompress

Respiratory, used to open lungs and respiratory system (allergies, smoke, VOG)

A tonic, aiding in depression, lethargy, weakness, listlessness

Also a tonic for internal organs including the stomach, liver, intestines

Beta-Carotene may neutralize free radicals and increase cellular antioxidant defense.

Calcium is understood to build strong bones.

Potassium can help maintain a healthy blood pressure level in combination with a low-sodium diet.
